TIPS FOR A SAFE SUMMER WITH YOUR PUPPY

02 July 2013

I heard a sad story from one of my clients this week. They discovered her Spaniel had a grass seed in her system which in spite of operations to remove it couldn't be located. This meant in an attempt to deal with it the dog's system kept getting abscesses which needed antibiotics. These grass seeds which you will see wherever grass is long enough to go to seed are like little arrows. Thay can lodge into fur and then if not removed work under the skin and then migrate around the body.

The points of entry are usually between the toes or into the ears. Sometimes they can be inhaled or enter into the eyes. Spaniels or dogs with thick curly coats are most likely to be affected. As a precaution I would advice you check your dogs thourougly after a walk. They are easliy missed.

The amazing thing about this story is that this dog had been mated ( before they knew about this problem.) and in spite of the trauma of major surgery and antibiotics went on to produce a wonderful litter of puppies who are doing well.

Lets hope the mother of these puppies goes on to make a full recovery and they manage to locate and remove this grass seed from wherever it is in her body. I wish her well.

Testimonial

I have been meaning to email you for ages to say how absolutely fantastic the classes you offer were. I have been scanning your website to see whether you were going to do the Bronze Kennel Club Award but nothing came up so I ended up doing it with a local club.... and shall I tell you something... your classes... your organisation.... the tasks you get the dogs to do.... your manner... not to mention other numerous qualities by far, and I mean by far supersedes what I have recently experienced. I honestly don't think I have learnt anything new in the last 8 weeks. Anyway Karen many thanks for everything you provided Tilly with in those sessions...they were just fab...thank you so much...please keep me informed should you be offering any other courses as I would be very interested.
